Shareable graphic: A look at the numbers behind Election 2012
  • Posted By lglynn

No surprise to anyone, Florida is once again the last to resolve the Election results, but on the plus side, the slow process allowed us to revisit the initial concept for this graphic while we waited for final numbers to become available. Still waiting, by the way. Once the outcome started to reveal itself on Election night we quickly realized that the really interesting story would lie in the voter demographics and social media of election 2012, not so much in the final numbers. So here is a look at some interesting pieces of that puzzle that taught the politicians and all of us watchers a lot about how the process has changed.

Once again, I teamed up with Amber McDonald and Anne Glover of the Tampa Bay Times | tampabay.com. and here’s what we came up with. Visit the site to read some of the related coverage and share the graphic:

Although the DNC was not held in our back yard or what we’d call “our story,” this political season is proving to be a very contested debate. Comparison after comparison, contrast after contrast. So we thought it a good exercise to take a side by side look at the RNC convention held in Tampa versus the DNC held in Charlotte to round out the Conventional Wisdom series. Working with Anne Glover, we quickly compiled some numbers and here is the shareable graphic we came up with:

Hurricane Andrew: 20 years later
  • Posted By lglynn
  • on August 30,2012

An infographic for tampabay.com commemorating the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew – the compact Category 5 storm that “no one saw coming” which struck with such intensity that it decimated much of Homestead and the surrounding area. The storm slammed into South Florida not only with devastating effects for the individuals who lived in the area, but also forever changing the insurance and construction industries in the state. This graphic provides a visual breakdown of Hurricane Andrew in facts and figures: from wind speeds to the timeline and path of Hurricane Andrew to the billions of dollars in damage.
